Modification of YSZ fiber composites by Al2TiO5 fibers for high thermal shock resistance

Abstract Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) fiber composites are highly efficient thermal insulating materials; however, the poor shock resistance limits their versatile applications. In present study, YSZ was mixed directly with Al2TiO5 fiber, which had an extremely low expansion coefficient, to prepare YSZ−Al 2 TiO 5 (ZAT) by compression molding and heat treatment. The minimum coefficient of prepared ZAT measured be 7.74×10 −6 K −1 , 26% lower than that (10.42×10 ). It shown maintain integrity after undergoing 51 cycles between 1100 °C room temperature. Whereas, burst immediately only one cycle under same condition. addition, also exhibit considerable mechanical performance.
